Educational Podcast

A podcast is a great tool to use in and out of the classroom. Educational podcasts be very helpful for teachers to improve on their teaching methods, expand their knowledge, and keep them up to date with what is new in the educational realm. Within the classroom, podcasts can be used to help explain concepts to students or even help teachers find different ways in which they explain new ideas that they are introducing to their class.

The following podcast comes from www.edutopia.org. It describes the importance of project based learning and places strong emphasis on student centered teaching. This podcasts gives an alternative to the traditional way of teaching and it may have some ideas that I can consider and perhaps incorporate in own future classroom.

Emerging Technology

The Interwrite Pad is a piece of emerging technology that may prove to become a very useful tool in the classroom. It allows a teacher to teach a lesson from anywhere in the class. The Interwrite Pad can be connected with an Interwrite Board to present an interactive image surface. A teacher can write and teach a lesson while sitting down, standing by trouble causing students, or from the back of the classroom. Classroom management may be improved because of the unlimited movement now provided to teachers through the Interwrite Pad and Board. Students can also use the Interwrite Pad to interact with the lesson and with the teacher. Several pads can be active in one classroom. The Interwrite Pad will be very helpful in my classroom in teaching my lessons.

Educational Game

The following game is a game that will enable children to better understand the value of vowels and help them realize that words cannot be formed without these vowels. It provides great practice for students and will hopefully help children become more familiar and comfortable with vowels. This game is called "Vowels In Your Bowels". Although it may sound slightly crude, it is not. It will be useful for children in becoming familiar with the internal organs as well as learning to spell and learning their vowels and consonants.

Assistive Technology

Assistive Technology can be very useful and important in the classroom especially when a a teacher has a student with a specific disability. The job of a teacher is to teach her/his students to the best of her/his abilities; therefore if assistive technology increases the likelihood of learning, then it should be utilized. An example of Assistive technology is a Screen Reader. It is a piece of software that reads text and information aloud, providing audio for a person who is blind or visually impaired. It reads documents, menu selections, error messages, and internet websites.

The link below explains the difficulty visually impaired people experience in using computers. It describes how the talking computer (Thunder Screen Reader) helps visually impaired people master computer frustrations. With the Screen Reader's help, the visually impaired can use the computer and internet. This link explains how the Screen Reader works.

Story Picture 3

This is a Story Picture that I plan to one day use in my classroom about road signs. It contains twenty road sign pictures and their meanings so that my students will be educated with knowledge of the roads even when their parents are doing the driving. I believe that students should be educated in and out of the classroom. This will help them in later days when my students are preparing to become drivers themselves. We need more safer drivers on the roads. My students are the drivers of the of the future and should be fully prepared for it.

Annotated Playlist

Here is a post containing a youtube video that I have created dealing with fractions. These videos will help me in my future classroom when I teach my students fractions. It will serve as a way to make fractions seem exciting rather than intimidating. These videos contain good explanations that clarify rules and are a fun way to learn math.
